Jim spent his career owning small businesses that protect the environment. He grew up loving the woods, which is how he decided to become a forester and wetland scientist. He graduated from the University of Maine in 1981 with a degree in Forest Management. He started out as a forester in northern Maine before opening up his first environmental consulting company in 1996. Today, Jim owns and operates Environmental Permitting and Inspection, LLC.
Why is he running for office?
As a small business owner and a former State Senator, Jim knows what the state can do to help people create jobs and grow their business. He believes the most effective way to create positive change is to participate in the lawmaking process. Right now, our communities are dealing with many issues: responding safely to the pandemic, rising property taxes and energy costs, and fighting climate change, to name a few. Jim is deeply committed to finding solutions to these challenges and being a voice for the families and small businesses of Gorham and Scarborough.
Jim will use his experience as a small business owner and a former legislator as our representative in Augusta.
Voters in Gorham, Scarborough and part of Westbrook elected Jim to represent them in the Maine Senate from 2013 to 2014. During his time as State Senator, Jim served as the Senate Chair of the Environment and Natural Resource Committee and as a member of the Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry Committee.
He currently sits on the Board of Directors of the Efficiency Maine Trust and has served on the Board of the Presumpscot Regional Land Trust, and as President of the Maine Association of Wetland Scientists.
